Zu den Grünalgen-Gattungen Chlorella und Scenedesmus gehören Arten mit ho hen Verrnehrungsraten [7,43, 51], deren Substanz je nach den Kulturbedin- gungen entweder zu über 50% aus Eiwei6 oder Fett oder Kohlenhydraten bestcht [1,46]. Da diese Algen auch reichlich Vitamine enthalten, wurde ihre Ver- wendung als Nahrungs-und Futtermittel immer wieder diskutiert [2,24, 30, 47, l 52]. Seit 1949 wurden Untersuchungen an Aigengro6kulturen von mehreren Seiten in Angriff genommen [4, 20, 27, 34]. Die unsterile Aigengro6kultur erwies sich anfangs jedoch als problematisch. Urn die aus Laborversuchen bekannten hohen Ausbeuten zu erhalten, wurde mit verschiedenen Kulturverfahren experi- mentiert [2]. Die ersten unsterilen Freilandkulturen mit 200-500 I Suspension wurden 1950 von der Kohlenstoffbiologischen Forschungsstation in Essen be- trieben [20]. Anschlie6end an erste orientierende Vers uche wurde in Japan mit der Essener unsterilen Kulturmethode und Durchsprudelungstechnik weitergearbeitet, bis das von T AMIYA eingeführte offene Zirkulationssystem verwandt wurde [50]. In Israel wurden ab 1950 Algen in 1 m tiefen Behältern nach der Methode von MAYER et al. [18] kultiviert. In Deutschland [23] wurde das Durchsprudelungsver- fahren durch eine neue Rührmcthode ersetzt. In den letzten Jahren wurden auch aus RuBland Untersuchungen über Aigengro6kulturen bekannt [35]. Nach NAKAMURA [30] laufen ebenfalls in China Experimente mit Algengro6kulturen. In Ungarn kultivieren FELFÖLDY et al. [5] Scenedesmus obtusiusculus in aquarium- artigen 200 I fassenden Glasbehältern. Nach unseren Erfahrungen ist für die Arbeit an Aigengro6kulturen die Unter- suchung folgender Pro bleme vordringlich: 1. Schaffung von Kulturbedingungen, die hinsichtlich Aigenwachstum und Wirt- schaftlichkeit optimal sind.
