"Da jeg kommer fra et land, hvor praktiserende arkitekter hengiver sig til arkitekturkritik af lyst og harme (Oriol Bohigas, Rafael Moneo, Solá-Morales ...), blev jeg i starten overrasket over mine danske kollegers mildhed og forsigtighed. Jeg troede, det var et sp rgsmål om temperament eller endda manerer, i retning af 'tavshed er den hårdeste kritik'.
I dag tror jeg, der er mere i det.
Nogle aspekter af kritikkens langsomme d d i arkitekturen er helt sikkert verdensomsp ndende f nomener: i webbaserede udgivelser er n sten alt tilladt. Almindelig promovering uden uafh ngig redigering tr der i stedet for et dybdegående kritisk filter.
Men nogle andre aspekter er mere relateret til en slags 'fagets kologi', som er s rlig for Danmark. Det har med st rrelse at g re, (vi kender alle hinanden), men også med konomi. I stigende grad udformes tegnestuerne, så de passer til tidens skiftende arkitekturpolitik, og mit indtryk er, at en atmosf re af im dekommenhed og enstemmighed betragter uafh ngig kritik som at 'rokke båden'. Under sådanne forhold, er det at v re kritisk at v re professionel selvmorderisk. Og måske er det derfor, de officielle store avisers arkitekturkritikere er journalister, ikke praktiserende (eller i det mindste uddannede) arkitekter, og ofte byder kritikken ikke på andet end intetsigende beskrivelser og rygklapperi.
Disse aspekter fortjener at blive unders gt."
