Finckenstein zu- sammengefunden haben, um ihren Lehrer, Förderer und Doktorvater zum 60. Geburtstag zu ehren. 1992 ist zudem ein weiteres Jubiläumsjahr: mit der Berufung von Herrn Professor v. Finckenstein auf den Lehrstuhl für Umfonnende Fertigungs- verfahren im Jahre 1972 ist die Umfonntechnik in Lehre und Forschung seit 20 Jahren an der Universität Dortmund vertreten. Zu diesem doppelten Anla soll jedoch keine Rückschau auf diese schaffens- reichen Jahre gehalten werden, denn die Ergebnisse dieser Arbeit sind in vielen Veröffentlichungen, Forschungsberichten, Vorträgen, aber auch als Anwendungslösungen in der Betriebspraxis dokumentiert. Es soll vielmehr der Versuch unternommen werden, in einer Momentauf- nahme Forschungen und Entwicklungen festzuhalten, die in Dortmund be- trieben werden oder aus Dortmund im engeren und weiteren Sinne initiiert oder inspiriert wurden. Die Beiträge dieser Festschrift stehen als .Beispiele für eine Vielfalt von Forschungsthemen und Entwicklungsprojekten. Sie zeigen, in welcher Breite die Umformtechnik als Ingenieurwissenschaft heute nicht nur in klassischer Weise Verfahren, Maschinen und Werkzeuge untersucht, sondern mehr und mehr die Gesamtheit des Fertigungsprozesses betrachtet. Dies betrifft Fragen der Technologie, der Kombination verschiedener Ver- fahren, sowie der Planung und Realisierung beispielsweise der Komplett- bearbeitung vom Halbzeug bis zur einbaufertigen Baugruppe.
