This is a scrapbook collection of facts and family lore about Leroy Carter. Included is information about his immediate descendants and his ancestors going back to the original Carter immigrant, James Cartar who arrived in the newly chartered Province of Pennsylvania in the early 1680s. William Carter of Wapping also arrived in 1682. The Carter family were not members of the Society of Friends. The family had been recruited for their blacksmithing skills. Many of the original immigrants to Bucks County, Pennsylvania came from Yorkshire, England. The Carters were people of grit and perseverance; they overcame obstacles to carve out a life in the wilderness. They crossed a continent on horseback and by walking along side wagons pulled by oxen. Carters established communities and commerce, sought fortunes, and lost much along the way but always remained a family.

Chapters include: Acknowledgements, Dates, Quaker Documents, Introduction, James and Susannah Cartar, John and Alice Cartar, James and Hannah Carter, James 2nd and Sarah Jane Carter, Leroy and Mary Carter, Marion and Elmeda Carter. Three appendices augment the text. The first appendix contains Pennsylvania and Virginia document abstracts: Friends certificates of transfer (Hayhurst, Heaton, Wildman), births and burials, and marriage certificates, along with wills, indentures, and more spanning 1714 to 1841. The second appendix contains Indiana court case abstracts, 1834 to 1846. The third appendix contains images of original documents and vintage photographs.
