'Understanding Spoken English - a focus on everyday language in context - Book Two' has been designed to help students of English understand spoken language as it is encountered in everyday business and social situations in English speaking environments around the world.

In addition to helping students discover the meaning of many widely used everyday expressions, this resource provides valuable information about the social and business conventions of spoken English such as talking about plans and intentions, checking meaning and giving feedback and using telephoning and interview strategies.

The grammar, pronunciation and listening features of spoken English are examined within the context of everyday conversations.

The audio recordings present speakers with a variety of English accents from around the world, including North America, Australia, South Africa, as well as a variety of British English accents. Information about the notable differences in pronunciation between different varieties of spoken English is provided.

This material is recommended for individual study as answers to all exercises are included, or as a supplementary class text to provide valuable listening practice and analysis of English as it is spoken around the world.

Boyer, Susan E.: - "Susan was a contemporary Australian author with over twenty non-fiction TESOL resource titles in print. Her first book, published in 1998, 'Understanding Everyday Australian - Book One' is still in demand today. In the mid-2000s her passion was for early Australia history and published 'Across Great Divides - true stories of life at Sydney Cove' then followed the with her young reader edition 'Stories of Life at Sydney Cove'.Very sadly, in 2021 Susan, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and passed away in February, 2022. Susan's many achievements include attaining a BA, MA and Grad Dip. In 2019 she commenced her PhD, and has been awarded a posthumous Doctorate. She was a dedicated and passionate researcher in the English language and early Australian history areas. Susan gave many presentations on TESOL subjects both domestically and internationally. Susan completed over 50 historical author talks and was on the Australian ABC 'Conversations' with Richard Fidler in April 2015."
