Locked classrooms.
Countdown messages.
Unscheduled assemblies.
A stairwell everyone forgot.

And a stranger who walks the halls like he's always belonged.

When United Middle School's rhythm begins to shift, the Young Investigators know something is off. Jake leads. Emily questions procedure. Max follows the data. Amy trusts her instincts. And Chip and Mia... accidentally test every theory in the loudest possible way.

What starts as separate mysteries becomes something bigger - a pattern hidden in plain sight.

In Book 16, the team discovers that familiarity isn't invisibility. It's belonging. And sometimes the only way to solve a mystery is to pay attention to what everyone else has stopped noticing.

About the Author

E. J. Rohly grew up on a farm in rural Ohio, where her imagination had plenty of room to run wild. As a kid, she loved making up stories-especially when she babysat and could share her tales with the kids she watched. Sometimes, she even let them produce their own endings! Making up stories is still one of her favorite things to do.

Esther went to school to learn more about teaching kids, and she became a preschool teacher, where she has spent years creating fun ways for little ones to learn and grow. As her family grew, she took literature classes to get better at writing, hoping to author her own books. Now, she is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and continues to learn new things through writing classes. Today, she is busy writing mysteries and adventures to spark imagination, just like her own love of stories sparked years ago on her family's farm.
