Die bisherigen Laboratoriumsuntersuchungen �ber die Auswirkungen k�rper- licher Arbeit auf den Menschen sind im wesentlichen auf die Erforschung des Zusammenhanges zwischen der geleisteten Arbeit im physikalischen Sinne und physiologisch nachweisbaren Ver�nderungen des Organismus gerichtet [18]. Neben anderen Me gr� en wurden vor allem der Energieumsatz und verschie- dene Kreislaufvariablen als physiologische Beanspruchungskriterien herausge- arbeitet und sowohl die allgemeinen Gesetzm� igkeiten als auch die individuellen physiologischen Ver�nderungen bei k�rperlicher Arbeit untersucht [28]. Weniger Beachtung fand dagegen die Frage, inwieweit Unterschiede in der geleisteten Arbeit mit �u erungen der subjektiv empfundenen Schwere der Arbeit einher- gehen. Die Alltagserfahrung zeigt zwar schon, da man die bei k�rperlichen Ar- beiten erlebbare Anstrengung von kaum merklicher bis zu maximaler Bean- spruchung in eine Rangreihe ordnen kann. Es ist aber unbekannt, ob die erlebte Anstrengung den physikalischen Me gr� en direkt proportional verl�uft oder ob, wie zu vermuten ist, ein komplizierterer Zusammenhang besteht. In dem vorliegenden Bericht wird der Versuch beschrieben, das Kontinuum der erlebten Anstrengung in Form von Skalen, deren Informationswert �ber Ordinalreihen hinausgeht, zu quantifizieren. Die praktische Bedeutung solcher Skalen wird durch die folgende �berlegung nahe gelegt: W�hrend der Begriff der mechanischen Arbeit physikalisch eindeutig definiert ist als Produkt aus Kraft mal Weg, werden bei k�rperlicher Arbeit in physiologischer Hinsicht zwei Arten unterschieden, n�mlich dynamische und statische Muskel- arbeit. Die dynamische Arbeitsform ist gekennzeichnet durch einen steten Wechsel von Kontraktion und Erschlaffung derMuskulatur. Sie entspricht im wesentlichen der physikalischen Arbeitsdefinition.
