Die Untersuchungen, uber deren Ergebnis hier berichtet wird, sollen einen Beitrag zu der Frage leisten, welches die Dberlegungen sind, auf denen die Investitionsentscheidungen industrieller Unternehmen beruhen. Da die In- vestitionspolitik zu den zentralen Aufgaben moderner U nternehmensfuhrung gehort, kann kein Zweifel daran bestehen, daB es sich hier urn ein echtes Pro- blem betriebswirtschaftlicher Forschung handelt. Fur die Volkswirtschafts- lehre aber bedeutet die einzelwirtschaftliche Analyse der betrieblichen In- vestitionspolitik zugleich eine Dberprufung der Pramissen, auf denen ihre Investitionstheorie beruht. Die Untersuchungen sind nicht als ein okonometrischer Beitrag zum Pro- blem makrookonomischer Investitionsfunktionen gedacht. Es geht vielmehr darum, den InvestitionsprozeB als solchen, wie er sich in den Unternehmen taglich vollzieht, grundsatzlich und in seinen Einzelheiten zu durchleuchten, urn ein moglichst wirklichkeitsnahes Fundament fur die wissenschaftliche Be- handlung des Investitionsproblems - vornehmlich in betriebswirtschaftlicher Sicht - zu erhalten. Zu diesem Zwecke ist von der in der Betriebswirtschafts- lehre seit langem erprobten Methode der Befragung Gebrauch gemacht wor- den. Eine groBe Anzahl von Unternehmen war bereit, die erforderliche Zeit und Muhe aufzuwenden, in stunden-, manchmal sogar tagelangen, intensiv gefuhrten Gesprachen die Informationen zu geben, die notwendig waren, wenn die Untersuchung nicht an der Oberflache bleiben sollte. Ich danke allen Unternehmen und Verbanden, die auf diese Weise die Untersuchungen unterstutzt haben.
