This practice-oriented book is a unique guide for the implementation of usable, privacy-compliant and secure online services in the area of e-government. Departing from the clarification of basic concepts of usability, data privacy and cybersecurity, the book provides clear explanations of different methods (quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods) to apply in the practice of designing, developing and evaluating online public services considering both usability criteria as well as data privacy and IT security compliance. Several examples and exercises as well as awareness raising measures that can serve as orientation for practitioners and for teaching purposes are included. A concise glossary of terms and recommendations of further readings are also covered in the book.

This book provides a comprehensive coverage of usability, data privacy and information security topics. Moreover, it is also up to date with respect to the implementation of the Single Digital Gateway regulation in the European Union at the time this book is going to press. This way, it aims at anyone interested in understanding the principles of usable privacy and information security and in how you can contribute to the design, development, and evaluation of online public services that meet the needs of citizens. This audience thus includes both students in e-government or public administration and professionals developing online services or e-government applications.

Esther Ruiz Ben is a private lecturer at TU Berlin and a computer scientist. Her current research areas are digital identities, digitalization processes, usable privacy and security, e-government and participatory methods in IT design.

Margit Christa Scholl is Professor for Business Computing and Administrative Informatics and Head of the Laboratory for Administrative Informatics at TH Wildau since 2001. She is also the Founder (2010) and Director of the Wildau Institute for Innovative Teaching, Lifelong Learning, and Creative Evaluation (WILLE) in the Technology Transfer and Continuing Education Center (TWZ e.V.) there. Margit is Qualification Partner of the Federal Academy of Public Administration (BAköV) at TH Wildau for the advanced training courses with certification exam "IT Security Officer I" (since 2010) and "Data Protection Officer in Compliance with the EU GDPR" (since 2017).
