Moro, Tomás: -

Político y escritor inglés, Tomás Moro (Londres, 1478-1535) llegó a ser uno de los máximos exponentes del humanismo renacentista. Procedente de la pequeña nobleza, estudió en la Universidad de Oxford y accedió a la corte inglesa en calidad de jurista. Miembro del Parlamento inglés y representante de la Corona en Londres, en 1521 le fue concedido el título de sir. Su postura contraria al anglicanismo le llevó a ser decapitado en 1535. En 1935 fue canonizado por Pío XI. En su obra, defendió un modelo ideal de organización social, contrario al militarismo y al desigual reparto de la riqueza. Su obra más conocida es Utopía.




English politician and writer, Thomas More (London, 1478-1535) became one of the leading exponents of Renaissance humanism. Born into minor nobility, he studied at the University of Oxford and entered the English court as a jurist. A member of Parliament and representative of the Crown in London, he was knighted in 1521. His opposition to Anglicanism led to his execution in 1535. In 1935 he was canonized by Pope Pius XI. In his writings, he defended an ideal model of social organization, opposed to militarism and the unequal distribution of wealth. His most famous work is Utopia.
