Im Lauf ihrer Geschichte wurde diese Stadt von den verschiedensten Menschen besucht, geschildert und analysiert, so dass man im Zusammenhang mit ihr oft hört sie sei die meist beschriebene Stadt der Welt. Heutzutage berichten die Medien immer wieder darüber wie labil und gefährdet die romantischste aller Städte ist, ebenso wie sie hauptsächliche negative Schlagzeilen über das liebste Urlaubsland der Deutschen bringen. Ob Venedig wirklich dem Untergang geweiht ist und warum das so zu sein scheint soll diese Arbeit näher beleuchten. ... Com'era e dov'era - das war die Maxime, die der amtierende venezianische Bürgermeister 1902 nach dem Einsturz des Campanile für dessen Wiederaufbau propagierte, ebenso wie sein späterer Nachfolger im Jahr 1996 beim Brand von La Fenice. Nach eingehender Auseinandersetzung mit der Materie erscheint es mir als Maxime für mittlerweile ganz Venedig. Die Erhaltung der Stadt im von den Touristen bevorzugten Zustand ist den zuständigen Stellen so wichtig, dass es ihnen egal zu sein scheint, welche Konsequenzen ihr Verhalten auf lange Sicht für die Stadt bedeutet. Die Frage ist, wie lange Venedig dieser Rücksichtslosigkeit noch gewachsen ist. Denn sollte sich der Leitsatz für die Lagunenstadt nicht ändern, so liebäugelt sie nicht mehr nur mit dem Untergang, sondern wird ihn tatsächlich erleiden.
