Are video games the myths of our time?

In Video Games and Mythology, Flvia Gasi explores how ancient mythological traditions continue to shape contemporary interactive worlds. From gods and monsters to heroic journeys and apocalyptic cycles, the symbolic structures that once animated oral and literary traditions now find new life in digital spaces.

Drawing on classical mythology, narrative theory, and game studies, Gasi analyzes how video games adapt mythological structures into interactive form. Through close readings of influential titles, the book reveals how design, gameplay, and narrative structure echo enduring mythic frameworks while adapting them for contemporary audiences.

Written in a clear and accessible style while grounded in rigorous scholarship, Video Games and Mythology is ideal for:

  • Students and researchers in game studies, media studies, classics, and digital humanities
  • Game designers, writers, and narrative developers
  • Readers interested in mythology, storytelling, and the cultural significance of games

This English edition presents the first translation of the author's original work, making Gasi's influential perspective available to a broader international audience.

Video Games and Mythology offers a compelling lens through which to understand video games as one of the most significant myth-making forms of contemporary culture.
