Ausgangspunkt der Studie ist die Diskrepanz zwischen dem Verhältnis der Schülerzahlen der jeweiligen Instrumentalfächer an deutschen Musikschulen und den Trefferzahlen der im Internet frei erhältlichen deutschsprachigen Video-Tutorials. Die, verglichen mit anderen Instrumentalbereichen, vergleichsweise geringe Beschäftigung der aktiven Streicher mit dem Medium VT wirft folgende Forschungsfrage auf: Welches Potenzial hat der Einsatz von Video-Tutorials im Instrumentalunterricht des Fachbereichs Streicher auf den Lernprozess aus Sicht eines Experten? Zwei theoretische Ansätze dienen als Rahmen zur Formulierung von Leitfragen: Distinktionsmechanismen nach Bourdieu sowie das Konzept der Pfadabhängigkeit nach Werle. In einem Experteninterview bilden diese Leitfragen dann die Basis für den Interviewleitfaden sowie das Kategorienschema in der qualitativen Inhaltsanalyse nach Mayring. Im Anschluss an die Erläuterung der Vorgehensweise werden die Forschungsergebnisse, deren Nutzen sowie der Ausblick auf Möglichkeiten zur Anschlussforschung dargelegt. Seitdem Web 2.0 flächendeckend in deutschen Haushalten Einzug gehalten hat, hat sich der aktive und passive Umgang mit Musik deutlich verändert. Das Internet entwickelte sich zum Speicher-, Distributions- und Kommunikationsmedium für alle musikalischen Themenfelder. Auch auf das Musiklernen hat diese Entwicklung gro en Einfluss: vor allem die Internetplattform YouTube, via deren Kanäle kostenfrei Videos aller Art abrufbar sind, stellt Tutorials zu Spieltechnik von Instrumenten, Interpretation von musikalischen Werken sowie zu musiktheoretischem Basiswissen für jedermann zugänglich zur Verfügung.
