In the kingdom of Dampenia, things are-unsurprisingly-damp.

So thirteen-year-old Viola decides someone should do something. And that someone is her.

Armed with nothing but unreasonable optimism, Viola sets off across a fairytale world gone slightly wrong. She meets hungry locusts obsessed with exercise, bureaucratic moles, worm-wizards, and melancholy elves who lend out rapiers but never smiles. Every kingdom she visits has its own crisis-and every creature she meets is certain that nothing can be done.

But Viola believes otherwise.
