Doch Wunder, Visionen und Prophezeiungen sind mehr, als blo e biblische Anschauungs- und Gestaltungsmittel zum Einstieg in die christliche Heilsbotschaft. Vielmehr noch haben sie den Rahmen der literarischen Form längst verlassen. Seit der nachapostolischen Zeit sind 914 Marienerscheinungen aufgezeichnet worden, und gerade in der Neuzeit mehren sich die Berichte. Eine solche Fülle an Erscheinungen kann und darf nicht als Spinnerei und Sinnestäuschung Einzelner abgetan werden. Vielmehr stellen sie eine Herausforderung für den gläubigen Christen dar, denn die blo e Vermutung göttlicher Einmischung in unsere Zeit mischt kontroverse Fragen auf. Wie lassen sich Erscheinungen, biblische sowie neuzeitliche mit dem aufgeklärten rationalen Verstand von heute vereinbaren? Kann es göttliche Botschaften in dieser Form überhaupt geben oder sind sie das blo e Ergebnis menschlichen Fehlverhaltens und Fehlinterpretation?
