Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2014 im Fachbereich Kunst - Fotografie und Film, Note: 1,0, Universität Hildesheim (Stiftung) (Kunst), Veranstaltung: Inszenierungen von Geschichte in der bildenden Kunst nach dem Ende des Historienbildes, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In dieser Arbeit geht es um die Frage, wie Visualisierung von Geschichte in William Kentridges Werk "Stereoscope" vollzogen wird, wobei zwei Aspekte im Fokus stehen. Welche Art der Geschichte wird behandelt und welche Orte der Geschichte zeigt er? In seinen Animationsfilmen beschäftigt sich Kentridge mit verschiedenen Aspekten des Lebens im Kontext der jüngeren Vergangenheit und der Gegenwart in Südafrika. Während die ersten 5 Filme der Reihe im letzten Jahrzehnt der Apartheid fertiggestellt wurden, liegt die Vollendung der restlichen 4 Filme zeitlich nach 1994, dem Ende der Apartheid. Mit Hilfe seiner narrativ strukturierten, aber dennoch hochgradig assoziativen Animationsfilme zeigt er Bilder über die Natur menschlicher Emotionen und Erinnerungen und die Beziehungen zwischen Begierden, Ethik und Verantwortung. Damit thematisiert er die mitunter subtilen Wechselwirkungen zwischen den äu eren Umständen wie Politik, Geschichte und dem Leben und Handeln des Menschen. Die interpretationsoffenen Filmplots bieten auch Bilder persönlicher Betrachtungen über die eigene Identität und Geschichte im Kontext der Apartheid. Im Film "Stereoscope" (1999) spielt Kentridge mit der Bedeutung des stereoskopischen Sehens, bei welchem mit dem biologischen Prinzip des Sehens gearbeitet wird, wobei die beiden Bilder der Augen, die aus verschiedenen Winkeln schauen, im Gehirn zu einem räumlichen Bild zusammengefügt werden. Der Protagonist in "Stereoscope" wird durch Splitscreen-Technik zu zwei verschieden handelnden Entitäten gemacht, die in der Logik des stereoskopischen Sehens zu einem Bild zusammengefügt werden müssten, um eine wahre Darstellung der Welt zu erhalten.
