Damals wurde erkannt, dass es in absehbarer Zeit nötig werden würde, die bis dahin existierenden Telefonienetzwerke und die Datennetzwerke zusammenzuführen. Seitdem wurden viele Anstrengungen unternommen, diesem Ziel näher zu kommen. Heute existiert eine Vielzahl von Lösungen, die hauptsächlich für die schrittweise Migration von klassischer Telefonie hin zu IP-basierter Telefonie geschaffen wurden. In dieser Arbeit wird zunächst erklärt, was "Voice over IP" bedeutet und welche Grundlagen es dafür gibt. Desweiteren erfolgt ein Vergleich von klassischer und IP-basierter Telekommunikation. Danach werden verschiedene Lösungsansätze klassifiziert und aktuelle Produkte vorgestellt. Am Ende werden Migrationsszenarien erläutert und ein Ausblick auf das zukünftige Potenzial von "Voice over IP" gegeben.
