Das transepochal und transnational angelegte Forschungsprojekt erschlie t die wichtigsten Zeugnisse durch Originaltext, deutsche Übersetzung und Kommentierung und wertet sie für die rezente Theoriedebatte aus. Ergebnis ist ein Korpus literarästhetischer Äu erungen zu Prinzipien und Formen poetischer Bild-Text-Kompositionen von der Antike bis zur Moderne als Beitrag zu einer historisch fundierten Dichtungstheorie. Die Forschungsresultate sind anschlussfähig für eine ganze Reihe von epistemologischen Diskursen: u. a. Autor- und Leserrolle, Bild-Anthropologie, Composition Science, Intermedialität, Manierismus, Materialität, Numerologie, Poetik, Produktions- und Rezeptionsästhetik, Visual Culture und evidente Rhetorik.
