Der vorliegende Band enthalt die neun Hauptreferate der 38. Tagung der Deut- schen Physiologischen Gesellschaft, die yom 29.9. bis zum 2.10.1970 in Erlangen stattgefunden hat. Nachdem die Auswahl der Referate unter dem Gesichtspunkt ge- troffen worden ist, damit einen Dberblick Uber den derzeitigen Kenntnisstand mag- lichst vieler Sachgebiete der Physiologie flir den jeweils auf anderen Spezialgebieten arbeitenden Kollegen zu geben, wurde in der Mitgliederversammlung yom 2.9.1970 beschlossen, die Hauptreferate zu veraffentlichen und damit einem breiten Leserkreis in gedruckter F9rm zuganglich zu machen. Die Reihenfolge entspricht der in der gesamten Physiologie Ublichen Anordnung der Stoffgebiete. Die Drucklegung war uns moglich durch eine Reihe von Spenden und Beihilfen, flir die wir auch an dieser Stelle herzlich danken durfen. Dabei gilt unser besonderer Dank dem Bayerischen Staatsministerium fUr Unterricht und Kultus, das diesen Kon- greB besonders gefordert hat. Dem Springer-Verlag danken wir fUr die Bereitschaft zur Dbernahme der Drucklegung und das groBzUgige Eingehen auf aIle WUnsche der Herausgeber.
