Von einer Ansammlung kleiner Gemeinschaften, deren Mittelpunkt die Interaktion bildete, wandelte sich die Gesellschaft in eine Massengesellschaft, mit eklatanten Folgen für unsere Interaktionsgewohnheiten. Von einem regen Austausch innerhalb familiärer Gemeinschaften sind wir zu einer von Widersprüchen geprägten oberflächlich verlogenen Form der Interaktion gelangt. Zwar ist Interaktion noch immer Mittelpunkt des menschlichen Zusammenlebens, allein schon weil man sich mittlerweile gar nicht mehr aus dem Wege gehen kann, jedoch sind die Regeln der Interaktion mittlerweile so zahlreich und komplex, dass das Individuum überfordert zu sein scheint. Interaktion ist zu einer gewaltigen Aufgabe und teilweise sogar Last geworden, da das differenzierte kapitalistische Sozialleben eine Vielzahl widersprüchlicher Ansprüche an die Individuen stellt. Die Grundlage des heutigen Soziallebens bildet die kapitalistische Produktion. Die Ökonomie ist die Basis für alle weiteren Sphären menschlichen Zusammenlebens. Wie also funktioniert in dieser von der Produktion dominierten Gesellschaftsstruktur die Kommunikation der Individuen untereinander, welchen Zwängen oder Gesetzen gehorcht sie und welche Auswirkungen hat das auf zwischenmenschliche Beziehungen? Um diese Frage adäquat beantworten zu können, sollen vorerst die Grundlagen der Kommunikation/Interaktion vermittelt werden. Als Einstieg hierzu sollen kurz grundlegende Interaktionstheorien erläutert werden, um dann die praktischen "Materialien" der Interaktion genauer zu beschreiben.
