theoretische Grundlage der allgemeinen Biologie und damit auch Pathologie entstanden ist, die man am einfachsten mit v. BERTALANFFY die "organismisch orientierte" nennen kann. In meinen Berliner Jahren (1953 bis 1956) hatte ieh mich, einer freundlichen Anregung von ERICH LETTERER folgend, mit Fragen der Pathomorphose, dem Gestalt- wandel groBer Krankheiten aus verschiedenen Ursachen, zu beschaftigen. Hierbei bewahrte sieh die "Gestaltphilosophie" vortrefflich, namlich bei der Charakterisierung des Krankheitsbegriffes, aber auch der Siehtbarmachung dessen, was "veranderlich" war (DOERR, 1956). H. v. KRESS machte mich seinerzeit auf bestimmte Grenzen der Anwendbarkeit des Gestaltbegriffes, namlich die kritische Studie H. J. FEUERBORNS (1938), aufmerksam. Natiirlich bedeutet das Leben eines Ganzen mehr als die einfache Summe aus dem Leben seiner Teile, aber das "Ganze" sei doch nur aus der Kenntnis seiner "Einzelteile" verstandlich zu machen. Spater in Kiel (1956 bis 1963) begegnete ich HANS NETTER. Seine "Theoretische Biochemie" (1959) begleitet mich seit dieser Zeit. In Kiel durfte ieh an der Berufung von HEINRICH SCHIPPERGES, damals von Bonn nach Kiel (1959), mitwirken. Die sogleieh aufgenommenen Gesprache zeigten mir, wie unvollkommen meine historischen Kennt- nisse und philosophischen Vorstellungen waren, aber sie befliigelten mieh doch, den Schwierigkeiten nicht aus dem Wege zu gehen, vielmehr Stein flir Stein einer "Theoretischen Pathologie" zusammenzutragen. In die Kieler Jahre fiel das Erlebnis der Ehrenpromotion des Baseler Professors der physikalischen Chemie WERNER KUHN.
