Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Das World Wide Web entwickelt sich zu einem zentralen Instrument der Kommunikation. Kein Medium entwickelt sich so schnell, vielseitig und innovativ. Auch China entdeckt das Netz. Zuerst machten sich Bürger daran, die Welt virtuell zu entdecken. Dann folgten Anfang 1999, von der Zentralregierung gesteuerte Projekte, deren Ziel es war, öffentliche Einrichtungen und Unternehmen ins Internet zu bringen. Der Erfolg: das Internet boomt in China und je nach Analystenmeinung werden in der VR China in fünf bis sieben Jahren mehr Menschen online sein als in den USA. Derzeit sind in etwa 265 000 Websites in der VR China registriert, und das Verlangen der Nutzer nach chinesischsprachigen Inhalten steigt rasant. Im Zuge dieser Entwicklung hat für immer mehr ausländische Unternehmen das Anbieten einer Website für den chinesischen Markt eine hohe Priorität. Die Entwicklung der chinesischsprachigen Webpage stellt ausländische Unternehmen jedoch vor besondere Herausforderungen, zum einen sind die Surfgewohnheiten der User weitgehend unbekannt, zum anderen gibt es noch nicht viele Firmen mit Erfahrung in der Gestaltung von Websites. Als Basis für diese Arbeit lassen sich hieraus folgende zwei Hypothesen ableiten: „Webdesign in der VR China steckt noch in der Entwicklungsphase.". „Bei der Gestaltung von Websites für chinesische Nutzer gelten besondere Regeln.". Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, Aussagen über die Gültigkeit der beiden vorangestellten Hypothesen zu treffen. Zum einen soll hierbei das Design chinesische sprachiger Websites, hinsichtlich Qualität sowie besonderen Merkmalen und Eigenheiten, untersucht werden. Dabei erscheint es sinnvoll, vor allem Websites chinesischer Site-Anbieter näher zu betrachten. Zum anderen sollen mögliche Besonderheiten und Herausforderungen identifiziert werden, die vor allem für ausländische Site-Anbieter bei der Gestaltung von Websites für chinesische Nutzer zu beachten sind.
