"Die Katzen halten keinen für eloquent, der nicht miauen kann", schrieb die österreichische Schriftstellerin und Freifrau Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach. "Eine Katze ist ein Zwerglöwe, der Mäuse liebt, Hunde hasst und Menschen von oben herab behandelt", stellte der angloamerikanische Schriftsteller und Künstler Oliver Herford fest. "Von Katzen versteht niemand etwas, der nicht selbst eine Katze ist", erklärte der japanische Schriftsteller Natsume Soseki. Das sind einige der "Weisheiten und Torheiten über die Katze", die im gleichnamigen Buch mit Gro schrift zu lesen sind. Weil das Urheberrecht erst 70 Jahre nach dem Tod eines Urhebers erlischt, konnten keine jüngeren Zitate ausgewählt werden. Gesammelt und herausgegeben wurden die Sprüche über die Katze von Doris Probst und Ernst Probst. Von beiden stammen auch die Gemeinschaftswerke "Der Ball ist ein Sauhund. Weisheiten und Torheiten über Fu ball" sowie "Worte sind wie Waffen. Weisheiten und Torheiten über die Medien". Doris Probst gab alleine auch eine siebenbändige Reihe mit Weisheiten und Torheiten über das Alter, die Arbeit, die Ehe, die Frauen, die Liebe, die Männer und die Kinder heraus. Ernst Probst ersann rund 500 Zitate, die er in dem Buch "Schweigen ist nicht immer Gold" veröffentlichte. Viele seiner Aphorismen sind in Büchern, Zeitungen und im Internet zu finden.
