Die Handlung

20 Jahre nach dem Mord an Dian Fossey wird in Ruanda am Ufer des Kivu Sees eine grausam zugerichtete männliche Leiche gefunden. Chief Inspector Jean Bosco Kabeera und sein Team, darunter die Austauschkriminalistin des BKA, Ariane Manstein, stehen unter starkem Druck den Mord aufzuklären. Zunächst liegt es nahe, dass es sich um ein Verbrechen im Zusammenhang mit dem Handel seltener Erden handelt, der im Grenzbereich Kongo/Ruanda lebhaft betrieben wird. Auch ein Ritualmord scheint nicht ausgeschlossen. Der Tote hatte eine Holzmaske auf dem Gesicht. Im Lauf der Ermittlungen werden aber merkwürdige Parallelen zum Mord an der 1985 ermordeten Primatologin Dian Fossey ersichtlich, mit denen aber der aktuelle Fall schwer in Verbindung zu bringen ist. Die Ermittlungen führen schlie lich in den Osten des Kongo, wo die Ermittler selbst in höchste Gefahr geraten. Mit Hilfe des Standortkommandanten von Goma, Joseph Likongo, ermitteln sie weiter bis Kabeera und sein Team einem Mordkomplott auf die Spur kommen, der letztlich sowohl für den Mord an Dian Fossey, als auch für weitere Verbrechen im Osten des Kongo verantwortlich war. Bosco Kabeera muss den Generalstaatsanwalt davon überzeugen die Akte der Dian Fossey zu öffnen, da nur ihre, bis dahin als geheim eingestuften, Notizen, den letzten Beweis liefern.

In diesem Afrika-Roman vermischt der Autor Fakten des ungeklärten Mordes an Dian Fossey mit einem anderen, fiktiven, Kriminalfall unter Bezug auf die leidvolle Geschichte Ruandas und des Kongos. Am Ende erscheint auch der mysteriöse Mord an der Gorillaforscherin in einem neuen Licht.

Karl H. Cron ist Diplom - Geologe, Jahrgang 1947 und arbeitete lange Jahre als Hydrogeologe und Berater in der Wasserversorgung. Zahlreiche Auslandseinsätze führten ihn in in den Yemen, Syrien, Jordanien, Afghanistan und in mehrere Länder Afrikas, zuletzt Ruanda, wo er kurzzeitig die Funktion des Direktors der Sektion Wasser des staatlichen Wasser- und Energieversorgers wahrgenommen hatte. Seit dem Eintritt in den Ruhestand arbeitet Karl H. Cron als freier Berater und hat einen Lehrauftrag der Universität Hamburg, seiner Heimatstadt. Karl H. Cron ist geschieden und hat eine Tochter. Der Roman "Wer tötete Dian Fossey" ist sein erster Roman.
