Naidu begins by explaining the Hindu concept of God and then proceeds to outline the most important scriptures. He explains the all-important five principles (God; the goals of life; rites, ceremonies, and sacraments; the six internal enemies and seven addictions; and the eightfold path) that form the backbone of a pious Hindu life. Surprisingly for Westerners, the eightfold path encompasses the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, known to us as the Buddha. Hinduism and Buddhism are two in one. At every stage, Naidu clarifies the goal of Hinduism, which is to inspire its followers to lead a conscientious and moral life.

Anyone with an interest in Eastern thought will find this book to be a fascinating guide to one of the world's great religions.

A native of India, N. P. Naidu was educated in India and received a BA, BEd, and MA in humanities and political science. He has taught humanities to teenagers for more than three decades. He currently lives in the United States with his family.
