Klepetar, Ian: - Raised in upstate New York and seasoned on the road, Ian Klepetar is known around the country for his bicycle advocacy efforts and unwillingness to conform to a normal life. A child who was never interested in growing up jumps into the book world with two sure-to-be best sellers. Klepetar's witty rhymes hope to inspire and breed a new generation of humans who are willing to focus their efforts on indepent thought, community action, earth-minded decision making and a yes-we-can attitude. Klepetar grew up swinging on vines, climbing trees and skiing in his parent's backyard. Very quickly, the confines of public education, social norms and the workings of the world corralled his spirit. After finishing high school, he moved to Montana to attend college where his spirit was once again allowed to be free. The mountains and the experiences they offered brought Klepetar back to his independent, wild and free carefree self. Klepetar's study in Human Geograhy educated him on the grave impacts that humans have on the earth when the systems are not in place to curb emissions and consumption. After working as a ski technician, waiter, bartender, dishwasher, camp counselor, male dancer, parking lot attendent, surveryor, preschool teacher, painter, and many more temporary jobs, Klepetar was ready to take action and do something about the challenges he was facing while trying to understand the damaging impact that automobile addition has on individuals, communities and the planet. Klepetar started the Saratoga Healthy Transportation Network in his hometown in 2005 and was poised to take action locally to improve the conditions for walking and biking in his community. The design of new bike racks for the city, a bicycle plan for the community, bike and walk to school days for the area schools and incentives for area bike riders at local businesses were some of his projects. Perhaps finding that his ideas were too ambitious for his conservative hometown of 30,000 people, Klepetar felt that the slow to change attitude of Saratoga Springssojourn in Argentina to teach English in 2006 and upon returning 2 years later, he was poised once again to make change. This time his goals were a bit greater. Wh
