Wildwood is a novel written by Mrs. Nathaniel Conklin and published in 1884. The story is set in the late 19th century in a small town called Wildwood. The main character, Lily, is a young woman who lives with her father and stepmother. Lily is in love with a young man named Jack, but her stepmother disapproves of their relationship. When Lily's father dies, her stepmother and stepbrother try to take over the family business and force Lily to marry a wealthy man. Lily refuses and instead decides to run away to New York City with Jack. In New York, Lily and Jack struggle to make ends meet and Lily becomes ill. They are eventually reunited with Lily's childhood friend, Edith, who helps them find work and a place to live. However, Lily's stepbrother tracks them down and threatens to reveal their location to her stepmother unless Lily agrees to marry the wealthy man. The novel explores themes of love, family, class, and the struggle for independence. It also provides a glimpse into the social and economic conditions of the time.
