Time is running out! As the world's clocks move swiftly onward, the action surges from the office of President Harry Truman to KGB headquarters in Moscow, and on to a desolate Texas village where a one-eyed, beer-swilling billy goat serves as mayor--and dead flys are used as poker chips. Among the characters caught up in this whirlwind are two highly decorated army bomber pilots, a hard-drinking, tough-talking female war correspondent--and a Yale-educated Mexican bandit who glues on a false mustache each morning in order to maintain his machisimo. As the story shifts from scene to scene, there is a hijacking, a plane crash, a murder, an attempted kidnapping, top level duplicity, and political blackmailing on the grandest scale. The ironic ending to this fast-paced adventure strongly suggests that perhaps sometimes things are not as they seem to be.

Thomas E. Alexander is the author of four books on Texas military history, one biography, one novel, and co-author with Dan K. Utley of three additional works on military history. His first book, The Stars Were Big and Bright, Vol. I, was named Publication of the Year by the San Antonio Conservation Society in 2001. His fourth book, The One and Only Rattlesnake Bomber Base, received the prestigious Rupert Richardson Award from the West Texas Historical Association for being the best book on West Texas history in 2006. He served in the U.S. Air Force as an officer in the Strategic Air Command and as a Major in the Illinois Air National Guard. He is a former rancher and a graduate of the University of Colorado. He also holds a Masters Degree in Military Studies with honors from the American Military University. In 2012, he was named AMU's Distinguished Graduate. Alexander was appointed to the Texas Historical Commission by Governor Rick Perry in 2003, and retired as Vice Chairman of the Commission after serving two six year terms. Before becoming an author and historian, he was Executive Vice Presient of Neiman Marcus for nearly twenty years. In 2007, Alexander received the History Award Medal from the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. He lives in the Hill Country of Texas with his wife, Capy.
