Ein nicht endender Strom prognostischer Studien und Hypothesen ergieBt sich aus nationalen und internationalen Korperschaften, Hochschulen, For schungsinstituten, Interessenverbanden und dergleichen mehr. Wirtschaftsprognosen spielen heute aus verschiedenen Grunden eine groBere Rolle als fruher. Ein AnstoB ergab sich - so will man hof fen - aus der Weiterentwicklung der okonomischen Wissenschaft. Mit dem Ausbau ihres Instrumentariums, einer umfassenderen Datenbeschaf fung und wachsender Realitatsbezogenheit schuf sie die Grundlagen fur detailliertere und verlaBlichere Prognosen. Aber unabhangig von diesen Fortschritten - und sie lassen noch manches zu wunschen ubri- nahm die prognostische Aktivitat zu, weil der Bedarf enorm gewachsen ist. Der Obergang yom liberalen Nachtwachterstaat zur dirigistischen Wirtschaftspolitik, die sich fUr Vollbeschaftigung und Wachstum ver antwortlich fuhlt, stellte die staatliche Tatigkeit vor Aufgaben, die ohne genauere Vorstellungen uber den voraussichtlichen Verlauf des Wirt schaftsgeschehens nicht gelost werden konnen. In die gleiche Richtung wirken Umfang und Kosten moderner GroBinvestitionen, die eine Planung auf lange Sicht erforderlich machen. Ein ausgepragter Bedarf fiir Prognosen entstand selbstverstandlich auch in den planwirtschaft lichen und Entwicklungslandern, die ja die Struktur ihrer Wirtschaft auf lange Sicht bewuBt gestalten wollen."
