Compelling personal history of the events of World War Two, collected first-hand from ordinary people who lived them. Vivid memories of troop evacuation from Dunkirk and other parts of France; the Blitz in Britain; Jewish children arriving as refugees on the Kindertransport; the Home Guard, recruited to defend Britain against German invasion; fighting in Europe and north Africa; POW life in Europe and Japan; escape routes for aircrew who were shot down over occupied Europe; the D-Day landings; Nazi concentration camps and much, much more are brought together in this remarkable volume, published to mark the 80th anniversary of VJ Day and the end of the war, and to preserve these voices for posterity. From Armed Forces personnel to women in the Land Army, Air Raid Wardens and children witnessing unimaginable destruction on the Home Front, this book gives the whole spectrum of experiences of the people of Wales during the conflict.
