Das Zukunftsprojekt "Industrie 4.0", das ein zentrales Element der Hightech-Strategie der Bundesregierung darstellt, zielt auf die Informatisierung der klassischen Industrien, wie z. B. der industriellen Produktion. Auf dem Weg zum Internet der Dinge soll durch die Verschmelzung der virtuellen mit der physikalischen Welt zu Cyber-Physical Systems und dem dadurch m�glichen Zusammenwachsen der technischen Prozesse mit den Gesch�ftsprozessen der Produktionsstandort Deutschland in ein neues Zeitalter gef�hrt werden. Das Technologieprogramm "Autonomik f�r Industrie 4.0" des Bundesministeriums f�r Wirtschaft und Energie (BMWi) ist Teil des Zukunftsprojekts "Industrie 4.0". Im Kontext dieses Programms ist der vorliegende Band entstanden. Das Buch gibt einen �berblick �ber m�gliche Wege in die die Zukunft der Arbeit unter den Bedingungen von Autonomik und Industrie 4.0. Zentrale Herausforderungen, Chancen und Risiken werden aus Sicht der Forschung, der Industrie und der Sozialpartner benannt.Beispielhafte Gestaltungsl�sungen aus den Bereichen Produktions- und Automatisierungstechnik, Robotik, Virtual Engineering, Landmaschinen und Lernfabriken illustrieren die im Buch dargestellten Trends.

Alfons Botthof arbeitete nach dem Studium der Physik zunächst im Bereich der Softwareentwicklung und in der Ausbildung von Kommunikationselektronikern. Seit 1988 ist er für die VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH tätig. Seine Arbeitsschwerpunkte umfassen umsetzungsorientierte Innovationsforschung zu Hochtechnologiethemen und damit verbundene sozio-ökonomischen Fragestellungen (IuK-Technologien und deren Anwendungen insb. Mikro- und Systemtechniken, Systemintegration, Internet der Dinge, autonome Systeme). Alfons Botthof leitet die Begleitforschung zum Technologieprogramm "Autonomik für Industrie 4.0 " des Bundesministeriums für Wirtschaft und Energie (BMWi) und ist eingebunden in Prozesse und Netzwerke zur Implementierung und Durchführung des Zukunftsprojektes Industrie 4.0 der Bundesregierung. Alfons Botthof ist stellvertretender Leiter des Bereichs Gesellschaft und Wirtschaft bei der VDI/VDE-IT in Berlin.

Ernst A. Hartmann promovierte 1995 nach dem Studium der Psychologie mit Schwerpunkt Arbeits- und Organisationspsychologie an der RWTH Aachen zu Fragen der Gestaltung industrieller Mensch-Maschine-Systeme. Mitte der 90er war er interner Berater für Organisations- und Prozessentwicklung bei den John Deere Werken Mannheim. Bis 2000 lleitete er an der RWTH Aachen eine Forschungsgruppe. 2002 habilitierte er in Psychologie und erhielt die venia legendi für das Fach Arbeits- und Organisationspsychologie; seitdem ist er Privatdozent für Arbeitssystem- und -prozessgestaltung an der RWTH Aachen. Seit April 2004 ist Hartmann Leiter des Bereichs Gesellschaft und Wirtschaft bei der VDI/VDE-IT in Berlin, seit 2007 zusätzlich einer der Direktoren des Instituts für Innovation und Technik (iit).
