Magisterarbeit aus dem Jahr 1998 im Fachbereich Filmwissenschaft, Note: 1, Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Institut für Film- und Fernsehwissenschaften), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Bei der Vielzahl von Filmen, die sich unter der Genre-Bezeichnung Thriller subsumieren lassen, sticht eine Gruppe besonders hervor: Jene, die Spannung im Rahmen von nur wenigen Schauplätzen und mit nur wenigen Personen erzeugen. Als besondere Qualität dieser Werke wird in vielen Publikationen der Eindruck einer, klaustrophoben Atmosphäre"2 wiedergegeben [hier im Bezug auf Polanskis Death and the Maiden (Der Tod und das Mädchen, USA/F/GB 1994)]3. Dabei kann man von der Tatsache ausgehen, da dieser Effekt nicht nur durch die strukturelle Eingrenzung des Geschehens erreicht wird, sondern auch durch eine konsistente Handlung, die mit diesen Rahmenbedingungen korrespondiert. In diesem Kontext wird in der vorliegenden Arbeit die Frage erörtert, wie Autoren und Filmemacher mit der Limitierung der vorhandenen dramaturgischen Mittel im Bezug auf die Spannungserzeugung umgehen. Dabei soll mit dem Begriff des Kammerspiel-Thrillers nicht die Genese eines neuen (Sub-)Genres vorgenommen werden, sondern eine Untersuchung der spezifischen Verbindung sowie der gegenseitigen Beeinflussung beider filmischer Kategorien im Bezug auf die Dramaturgie der Spannung. Leider mangelt es gerade in der Verbindung zwischen den Eigenschaften des Thrillers mit jenen des Kammerspiels an aussagekräftiger Literatur, so da als Basis zuerst die separate Betrachtung beider filmischer Kategorien im Vordergrund steht, deren Ergebnisse dann in der zweiten Hälfte der Arbeit an drei ausgewählten Beispielfilmen analytisch vertieft werden. Analysiert werden schwerpunktmässig die Filme Wait Until Dark (Warte, bis es dunkel ist, USA 1967, Regie: Terence Young), Misery (USA 1990, R: Rob Reiner) und Death and the Maiden.
