Geburtstag. Die zwischen seiner Emeritierung als Ordinarius fUr Psychiatrie und Neurologie liegenden anderthalb Jahrzehnte unterscheiden sich von seiner vorangegangenen Tatigkeit dadurch daB er seitdem, frei von jeglicher Belastung den vollen Tag nutzend, seiner wissenschaftlichen Arbeit nachgeht. Auch den Jubilaumsgeburtstag verbrachte er an seiner alten Wirkungsstatte, 1m Mittel- punkt dieses Tages stand nun ein Symposium, das seinem ureigenen Interessengebiet, der Klassifika- tion endogener Psychosen, gewidmet war, das er selbst aktiv mitgestaltete, indem er die Ergebnisse seiner Forschung der letzten Jahre vorlegte. Auf seinen ausdrlicklichen Wunsch hin kamen neben Schillem und Anhangem LEONHARDS auch Fachkollegen zu Wort, die international durch abwei- chende eigene Auffassungen bekannt sind. Es ist sicher nicht zu weit gegriffen, davon auszugehen, daB diese Zusammenkunft historisch bedeutsam war, da sie einer abgerundeten Wertung der Arbeit an der Klassifikation der endogenen Psychosen von WERNICKE iiber KLEIST bis zum aktuellen Schaff en von Karl LEONHARD unter Beriick- sichtigung wesentlicher anderer Auffassungen von KRAEPELIN bis heute entspricht.
