Sie stellt ein universales Phänomen dar, fest durch Religion und Tradition in der Gesellschaft verankert. In den Industrieländern wurden - zumindest formal - schon viele geschlechtsspezifische Unterschiede eingeebnet, wenngleich von einer tatsächlichen Gleichberechtigung und -behandlung noch lange keine Rede sein kann. Wesentlich prekärer gestaltet sich die Stellung der Frau jedoch in den Entwicklungsländern, da dort das Problem der doppelten Ausbeutung der Frau in Wirtschaft und Haushalt noch mehr zum Tragen kommt. Eine solche Diskriminierung ist jedoch nicht nur um ihrer selbst willen zuverurteilen - vielmehr setzt sich in letzter Zeit in der entwicklungspolitischen Debatte der Standpunkt durch, dass Entwicklung ohne Feminismus nicht machbar ist. Zu dieser längst fälligen Erkenntnis trugen auch Frauen selbst bei, indem sie durch Eigeninitiativen ihre Subjekthaftigkeit unterstrichen. Einen wesentlichen Beitrag zur Institutionalisierung von Frauenfragen sowie zur Solidarisierung von Frauen untereinander lieferten die UN-Weltfrauenkonferenzen, deren wahrscheinlich grö tes Verdienst das Anheizen der öffentlichen Diskussion um Frauenbelange darstellt. Im Umfeld um diese Konferenzen bildeten sich auch zahlreiche Nichtregierungsorganisationen, die den Kontakt zur Basis aufrecht erhalten. Im ersten, "allgemeinen" Teil meiner Arbeit soll der Frage nachgegangen werden, welche diskriminierenden Strukturen Frauen in Entwicklungsländern den Alltag erschweren. Im Anschluss daran werde ich frauenspezifische entwicklungspolitische Initiativen von Seiten der Vereinten Nationen und anderer Organisationen skizzieren, feministische Entwicklungsansätze sowie internationale Frauen
