Die Monographie untersucht die Herausbildung und Entwicklung der neueren politischen Sprache Spaniens seit der Transición Democrática unter lexikologischem, semantischem und diskursanalytischem Gesichtspunkt. Die Genese sowie der Proze der Ausdifferenzierung und Entfaltung des Bedeutungspotentials des zeitgenössischen politischen Wortschatzes, insbesondere die Fixierung und Habitualisierung spezifischer Lesarten, werden vor dem Hintergrund bis ins 19. Jahrhundert zurückreichender Bedeutungs- und Diskurstraditionen freigelegt und nachgezeichnet. Behandelt wird der ideologische Wortschatz der politischen Parteien - die Lexik politischer Ideen, Anschauungen, Einstellungen, Haltungen und Mentalitäten. Desweiteren wird das Augenmerk auf die sozio-ökonomische Lexik mit den ihr eigenen klassifikatorischen und analytischen Bezeichnungskategorien sowie der sich neu konstituierenden administrativen Spezialterminologie gerichtet. Die Studie wendet sich schlie lich auch der politischen Metaphorik als einem systematisch verwendeten, analogiebasierten Rekonzeptualisierungsverfahren zu, das den Hintergrund für die Ausprägung kohärenter politischer Diskurse abgibt, aber insbesondere auch den Kristallisationsraum für die similaritätsbasierte Lexikogenese. Der dreifache Zugriff lä t im diskursgeschichtlichen Längsschnitt den besonderen Charakter der politischen Sprache des Landes, besonders ihren stark pseudo-philosophischen, dezidiert technokratischen und nicht zuletzt auch euphemistischen Zug verständlich werden. Deutlich zeichnet sich aber auch eine Dynamik in Richtung auf eine Europäisierung und vor allem Standardisierung der politischen Sprache ab, kurzum: die Herausbildung einer koine der ma geblichen politischen Kräfte des Landes als Zeichen eines erfolgreichen demokratischen Konsolidierungsprozesses.
