About the book:

'For the Greater Gur' is a cookbook, with a foreword by Michelin Star Chef Vikas Khanna, beautifully illustrated with recipes of 150 desserts all made with Gur (Jaggery).

While the book is a small attempt to influence and encourage the use of jaggery in our desserts, the highlight of the book is that it has at least one dessert from the specific cuisine of almost all of our Indian states (for example Shufta from Kashmir, Pukhlein from Meghalaya, Koat Pitha from Nagaland, Mawe wali barfi from Jammu and many others).

This in itself is quite a feat given that the Indian cuisine has so many flavors and is so diverse; at the same time there are so many popular desserts, that many other delectable and decadent ones get overshadowed.

Finally the book is a humble tribute that Geeta has dedicated to her father who inspired and instilled in her the love for healthy and disciplined living.

Gwalani, Geeta: - "With a foreword by Michelin Star Chef Vikas Khanna, Geeta's second book is "For the Greater Gur" - 150 Delectable Desserts. She is the author of Aromas of Sindh - A 100 Recipes from the heart- her first cookbook published in 2020, which won her the Gold award from the Nonfiction Authors Association headquartered in the US. Through her first book she has been working towards socializing people about this unique cuisine of a community that saw mass exodus from its hometown in Sindh during the partition of India in 1947. Over the last two years, Geeta has been chosen as a contestant at the Shoprite Cooking Star challenge aired on TV in the US. In addition, she has been the first Runner Up at the Chef Select '21 challenge judged by Celebrity Chef Vikas Khanna in Manhattan. For the Greater Gur is Geeta's second cookbook. The book has 150 dessert recipes, each one, using Gur or Jaggery a well-known ingredient in India and a good way to cut down sugar in our diet.Geeta is a certified Yoga practitioner and also a student of Ayurveda. In her spare time, she also learns Kathak and Sitar."
