Der "Flu " von "Material" in FlUssigkeiten und Gasen und von Energie ist be- reits seit langer Zeit Gegenstand wissenschaftlicher Forschung. Hierzu ge- nUgt ein Hinweis auf so berUhmte Namen wie Bernoulli, der sich mit der Hy- drodynamik beschäftigte, oder Kirchhoff, welcher die elektrischen Ströme un- tersuchte. Diese und andere Arbeiten auf verwandten Gebieten haben der Na- turwissenschaft bahnbrechende Impulse gegeben. Weniger grundlegend und rich- tungsweisend, fUr den Alltag des "Industrieplaners" darum nicht minder be- deutsam, sind quantitativ beschreibbare Zusammenhänge zwischen Anforderungen und Leistungen von Materialflu systemen. Der Begriff "Materialflu system'' steht hierbei fUr ein logistisches Teilsy- stem, welches die Bewegungen von Materialien in einem technischen System, z. B. innerhalb einer Fertigung in einem Unternehmen, steuert und ausfUhrt. In solchen ''Materialflu systemen" gibt es Gesetzmä igkeiten, die mit Hilfe quantitativer Methoden ermittelt und beschrieben 1erden können. Hiermit be- schäftigt sich das vorlie9ende Buch. Nach EinfUhrung der wesentlichen Grundgrö en zur Beschreibung und Bewertung von Materialflu systemen beschäftigt sich der Verfasser mit der Berechnung der Stromstärke und des Durchsatzes auf Förderabschnitten, die zwei Punkte miteinander verbinden. Beispiele hierfUr sind Stetigförderer und Fahrzeuge, die nur zwischen einer Quelle und einem Ziel verkehren. Anschlie end werden die Methoden zur Berechnung von Spielzeiten hergeleitet, wie sie etwa in Lagern von Bedeutung sind. Hierbei werden Transporte zwischen mehreren möglichen Quell- und Zielorten zugelassen. Weiterhin beschäftigt sich der Verfasser mit Untersuchungen zur Grenzleistung, die an einem Konfliktpunkt in Abhängigkeit von den eingesetzten Steuerungs- strategien erbracht werden können.
