Wabi Sabi und Kintsugi haben in den letzten Jahren etwas ber�hrt, was im Westen lange fehlte: ein Sinn f�r stille, gebrauchte, gealterte Sch�nheit, ein Gegengewicht zur Hochglanz-�sthetik. Die Sehnsucht, aus der diese Aufmerksamkeit kommt, ist nicht naiv. Sie hat eine eigene W�rde.

Dieses Buch nimmt sie ernst. Es schaut, was hinter den beiden japanischen Begriffen steht, in welcher Tradition sie wachsen und welche Beziehung zwischen der Tradition und den Bildern besteht, die heute auf Pinterest und in Reels kursieren. Es ist die deutschsprachige Sortierung f�r alle, die einen Sinn f�r das Konzept haben und die Quellen kennenlernen m�chten, aus denen es kommt.

Die Sortierung folgt der Standardliteratur. Sie geht auf Leonard Korens Wabi-Sabi for Artists, Designers, Poets and Philosophers von 1994, die zentrale westliche Quelle, die heute in jeder popul�ren Aufbereitung mitschwingt, ohne genannt zu werden. Sie geht auf Bonnie Kemskes Kintsugi: The Poetic Mend (Herbert Press 2021), die technisch genaueste englischsprachige Aufbereitung, und auf Christy Bartletts Cornell-Ausstellungskatalog Flickwerk (2008). Erg�nzt durch Andrew Junipers Wabi Sabi: The Japanese Art of Impermanence (Tuttle 2003) und den akademischen Japanese Philosophy: A Sourcebook von Heisig, Kasulis und Maraldo (Honolulu 2011), wo die Quellenlage d�nn wird.

Wabi Sabi ist in dieser Tradition eine �sthetische Haltung, kein Lebensratschlag. Kintsugi ist eine Reparaturtechnik mit Urushi-Lack und Goldpulver, keine Heilungs-Methodik. Die popul�re westliche Aufbereitung ist eine eigene, j�ngere Schicht mit Ankn�pfungspunkten in den Originaltexten, aber mit einer eigenen Logik. Beide Schichten haben ihren Platz. Sie zu unterscheiden, macht beide reicher.

Das Buch trennt Wabi und Sabi als zwei eigenst�ndige Begriffe mit eigener Wort-Geschichte. Es zeigt, wo Koren 1994 das westliche Bild gepr�gt hat, und wo seine Beschreibung etwas anderes meint, als die popul�re Adaption daraus gemacht hat. Das Kintsugi-Kapitel beschreibt die Reparaturtechnik in ihrer materiellen Disziplin: Urushi-Lack aus Toxicodendron vernicifluum, Polymerisation bei 65 bis 80 Prozent Luftfeuchtigkeit, Goldpulver-Preise von 80 bis 200 Euro pro Gramm.

Mono no Aware, der verwandte Begriff aus Heian-zeitlicher Hofliteratur und Motoori Norinagas Genji-Lekt�re, wird in einem eigenen Kapitel eingeordnet, mit Verbindung zu Bashō. Am Ende stehen f�nf konkrete Anker f�r den Alltag: Fragen und Pausen, die Sie an bestimmten Stellen Ihres Tages stellen k�nnen.

Mara Westhoff arbeitet entlang der Standardliteratur. Koren, Kemske, Bartlett, Juniper und Heisig bilden die Quellen-Linie, die sie f�r deutschsprachige Leser zusammenstellt und einordnet.
